My dance is an expression of ‘who I am today.’ I incorporate techniques I have seen and learned, rolling emotions felt deep within the soul, I act out stored emotions and unsaid sentiment, of sadness, joy, desire, frustration. I flirt with the absurd and exercise my freedom of movement. I scale the boundary between open and closed, tight and loose, free, and imprisoned. I combine physical aspects of the sports I have played, including yoga and martial arts.
I explore the space of music with my body; I let the sound play me. I follow impulses to move certain parts of the body and as I move through them, I discover blockages in the form of tension, tightness, then work through these. After a session, I feel transformed, changed.
The dance observes what is but suspends expectations held from within or from outside. It is an act of personal expression irrespective of status quo, of genre, of trend, of internal or external judgment. The form is free, flowing, felt. Whatever comes is accepted. This is where the freedom resides. Styles are not revered but can be reflected. Mixed. Explored.
